From the Outside
Sept. 4 - Nov. 1, 2020

For the next two months, we are excited to be exhibiting luminous paintings by Valerie Patten. Valerie lives in Pacifica and has a dual career as artist and lawyer. She is both right-brain and left-brain focused. This is evident in her multidimensional, reflective compositions that have psychological depth.

FOG is open regular hours Thursday - Sunday 12-6pm and by appointment. We adhere to COVID-19 protocol requiring face coverings and have excellent ventilation as a storefront. We look forward to your visits.

Natalie Craig's Show: A Video

Far Out Gallery is pleased to reopen after a four month mandatory closure. Our new show features Natalie Craig’s mixed media paintings, collages and drawings. We are open our regular days Thursday - Sunday 12-6pm and by appointment.

Natalie will be at the gallery every Saturday from 12-6pm to welcome visitors. As a storefront space, we have excellent ventilation with both front and back doors open. We adhere to COVID19 safety protocol where masks and social distancing are required. Throughout Natalie’s exhibition, we will explore her various genres in future emails. Enjoy this short video of Natalie and her art at FOG by Starr Sutherland. We hope you will come and see her art live.

Greetings FOG friends,

We will be transferring our Covid-19 Window to an “insider’s” gallery show on Thursday, June 25 where all the art will be on display through Sunday, June 28. Regular hours 12 - 6pm – sans live music – on Friday and Saturday. Original art can be picked up on Sunday. For those who cannot pick up then, please email anne@faroutgallery.com to make other arrangements. A big thanks to those who shared their creativity with us and the community. You have transformed our block into an ever evolving art show. All of FOG’s windows are covered with your images and messages of uplifting spirit.

Next week we will install Natalie Craig’s exhibition. Vignettes: mixed media paintings and collage will be on display July 4 - August 30. Her reception will be in August (date still to be determined). We will be open July 4. All is still evolving while we observe stringent Covid-19 protocol. In these unsettled times, we are counting on our strong art community to help us through the turmoil to arrive at a better place - we are all in this together.

With gratitude and love,

Peter and Anne

We will be open July 4!

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is posting this to their blog! It’s a beautiful tribute to our gallery and the community of artists who’ve donated their creativity to our neighborhood.

Memorial Day

IMG_2266.jpg

Last year at this time I wrote a Memorial Day piece about Lew Carson, one of our favorite artists who had passed away. He joined Mamade Kabreebux, Richard Kamler, Janet Norris, Tom Akawie, and Harry Cohen as our sixth fallen hero. This year I am writing a commemorative piece about the virtual passing of Far Out Gallery due to this strange interlude that we all find ourselves in.

Ten weeks of being closed has left us wondering what our community and gallery will look like this summer, this fall, and this winter. Until then we simply can’t and won’t know. We are on the cusp of big changes though. This pandemic has exposed serious flaws in our country, and has given us a golden opportunity to make changes. Let us embrace this moment. Let us have big dialogues and big discussions. Let us see what breathing and making art and living looks like post pandemic.

As someone recently said, “Science will get us out of this mess, but art will get us through it.” Already we have made progress: just look at the marvelous window display that you have given us all. In June we will display these pieces inside. In July and August we are finally going to see Natalie Craig’s show that had been scheduled for April.

So, peace and love and hope to you all as we create and enter our new world. -Peter
